Locals Propel Xavier JV Rout Over Fordham Prep
On a beautiful Saturday morning the Xavier junior varsity football team played host at Marine Park to rival Fordham Prep. Last season the two teams met in their final freshman game and with Xavier leading 18-6 going into the forth quarter, Fordham Prep scored twice to win 20-6. This season, however, was a different scenario. Fordham Prep jumped out early and easy to a 6-0 lead. On Xavier’s second possession Conner Sweet put a hit on Fordham Prep.
The ball popped loose into the hands of Jimmy Wolfer who ran it back for a touchdown to tie the score 6-6. Xavier never looked back scoring four more touchdowns while holding Prep scoreless and winning decisively 32-6. The jv team is 6-1 and will play their last game next Saturday, October 30 at Marine Park at 10:00 a.m. before heading into the playoffs.
The freshman team has dominated their opponents all season outscoring them 212-47 and completely shutting out three opponents to remain undefeated. Head Coach John Kelly (Breezy Point) has every reason to believe his Xavier Knights will finish out this season as undefeated City Champions. In its last outing against Mount Saint Michael, Xavier dominated on both sides of the ball winning 36-0 with five different players scoring touchdowns. With two games to play, the excitement builds as Coach Kelly’s Knights prepare for Cardinal Hayes at Aviator Field on Friday, October 29 at 7 p.m. and Fordham Prep on Friday, November 5 at 7 p.m.
There are 25 plus former Brooklyn Hurricanes players that played for Coach Steve Orr and Coach Brian Sommerville playing in the Xavier Knights Football Program.
