Scholars’Avenges Early Season Loss To Campus Magnet

The Scholars’ Academy volleyball team has been looking forward to a rematch against Campus Magnet; the only team Scholars’ lost to thus far this season. Scholars’ got this chance on October 18.

The game started off similarly to the last time Scholars’ faced Campus Magnet; the first few players missed their serves. However, after a few points, the girls got it together. The first match was a nail-biter but Scholars’ ended up on top with a score of 25-23.

The second match, Campus Magnet started off strongly once again but after a much needed time out, the Scholars’ Academy got it together and played hard until the end, defeating Campus Magnet 25-18. The spectacular play can be attributed to 21 kills combined by Nicole Glaz, Megan LaCognata and Paris Hanson as well as Rebecca Moer’s 8 assists and Miranda Harding’s 6 aces and 12 assists.

“This group is finally playing as a team,“ says Scholars’ coach Kerri Hubbard. “It is nice to finally see the girls working together to achieve one goal.” The Scholars’ Academy went on to defeat August Martin on Tuesday, 25-20 and 25-8, to advance their current record to 8-1 in the PSAL Queens B9 Division.
