High School Roundup: BCHS Remains Undefeated; Lady Dolphins Win Title; Far Rock Seahorses Lose

By Elio Velez

Beach Channel/Channel View gave their fans plenty to celebrate on Homecoming Day last Saturday by winning their sixth straight PSAL Bowl Division game over August Martin 28-0.

Adekoejo Odedere led the first place Dolphins (6-0) with a game high 150 yards of rushing and scored a touchdown. Diequan Underwood rushed for 100 yards and Henry Adengule caught two touchdown passes from QB Patrick Burrello.

The Dolphins defense held August Martin to only 94 total yards of offense and has recorded a shutout for the fourth time this season.

Beach Channel will travel to Springfield Gardens for a game at 11 a.m.

Seahorses Fall To Petrides

Far Rockaway’s offense had two opportunities in the second quarter to score from only one inch away from the end zone in Staten Island last Saturday.

The Seahorses couldn’t convert as they were turned away by a Petrides defense that stuffed Kasim Teague on the 1-yard line and turned away QB Jowell Turner Moore’s rushing attempt. Petrides took advantage and got 133 yards of rushing and three touchdowns by Joe Henry to win 21-6, in a PSAL Cup Division game.

Petrides improved to 5-1, while the Seahorses fell to 3-3. Romello White’s 30- yard touchdown run was the lone score for Far Rockaway.

“It was frustrating,” said Seahorses coach Walt Wilkerson. “We had the ball on the 1-foot line and could not get the ball in. If we got the ball in the end zone, the whole game just changes.”

Far Rockaway needs a win tonight to keep their playoff hopes alive at Pier 40 in Manhattan against 4-3 Stuyvesant.

Lady Dolphins Win Division

Beach Channel (9-2-1) won via forfeit over Campus Magnet (1-9-1) to capture the PSAL Queens B VI Division crown last Sunday.

Beach Channel will host Springfield Gardens (6-3-2) on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the regular season finale.
