Richie Paddle For MS A Success

The Second Annual Uncle Richie Paddle for MS kicked off on Saturday, October 2 with epic paddling conditions. There was a bright sky with clear brisk air and off-shore winds.

The diverse participants were eager to hit the 4-foot Hurricane Igor surf. Beach 92 Street was packed with surfers from the tri-state area, all trying to capture the perfect wave. Most paddlers were stand-up, the new craze that is sweeping the country. The 7-mile course was a formidable challenge from Beach 92 Street to Bay 1 and back.

The short board paddlers opted for the abbreviated course, as did the long board paddlers, surfing their way to Beach 116 Street and back.

There were 15 participants, all sacrificing surfing time to “Join the Movement” and raise awareness for MS. The paddle raised $4000 for research for multiple sclerosis, mostly from donations and T-shirt sales.

The day was capped off with a relaxing lunch at Jameson’s Pub, with everyone sharing his/her experiences of the day. The participants’ hard work made the Second Annual Uncle Richie Farrell Paddle for MS a huge success.
