First Congregational Church of Rockaway Beach, an open and affirming member of the United Church of Christ, is looking forward to celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2011, with several events now being planned by members to commemorate the history and traditions of their congregation. In the meantime, cherished annual activities continue. On Saturday, October 23 from 5 – 9 p.m., there will be a Halloween Party for children in the church hall featuring costumes, games, and snacks, plus a pumpkin patch in the children’s garden for the little ones. The suggested donation for the event is $5.00. All youth from the community are invited to attend.

First Congregational’s members will also be participating in what they hope will become a new annual community event this fall, as they join with the congregation of St. John Baptist Church and the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center, both located nearby in Arverne, to sponsor a Family Health and Wellness Fair, featuring a wide range of ideas and strategies for improving the health of the people of Rockaway.

The event will be held at First Congregational on Saturday, Nov-ember 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

First Congregational is located at 320 Beach 94 Street in Rockaway Beach, near the ramp to the Cross Bay Bridge. For more information about these fall events, please call the church office at 718-634-4701.
