PHC Welcomes New ER Director
Robert V. Levine, President and Chief Executive Officer at Peninsula Hospital Center welcomed Robert S. Helman, M.D. as the new Director of the Emergency Department at the Hospital Center. Dr. Helman, Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, brings with him many years of experience in Emergency Medicine. After receiving his Doctorate of Medicine at St. George’s University School in Granada, West Indies, he completed his residency at Metropolitan Hospital Center, New York, NY in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Helman held the positions of Instructor, Clinical Emergency Medicine at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, Residency Clinical Site Director, Department of Emergency Medicine and attending physician at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in the Bronx. He has also served as the Director for Emergency Medical Services at Victory Memorial Hospital in Brooklyn, New York and as Director, Urgent Care Center at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.
Dr. Helman, whose father is a physician, says that “the practice of medicine just came naturally,” “I look forward to working both in an administrative and in a clinical capacity at Peninsula Hospital as I truly enjoy the practice of emergency medicine,” says Dr. Helman. “The staff has been warm and welcoming and although it’s always challenging to assume the Director’s role in a new hospital and getting to know everyone’s strengths, I believe I have some innovative ideas and look forward to meeting the challenge.”
