Midget Shamrocks Keep Battling In Loss To Roosevelt
The BCAC Midget Shamrocks took to the road for the third time this year to go up against the Rough Riders of Roosevelt. The Green Machine offense was in high gear as they gained a combined 198 yards rushing. The Shamrocks ran all day on Roosevelt’s fierce starting defense. Coach Gene decided to go with multiple backs to confuse everyone, including himself.
Some of the big runs on the day were supplied by Andrew Visconti, Peter Meehan, Dillon Ostrander, Timmy McCabe and Jack Allen. Ian Byrne led the team with 79 yards rushing and Tyler “Lightning” Styka broke free for a 60-yard touchdown. Once again the backbone of the offense was the O-line led by Sebastian Frieberg, Thomas Houck, Jack Collins, Matt McCabe and Michael O’Connell. Coach Gene promises to have an even more explosive offense next week.
The BCAC defense stepped up as well – led by Kevin “Not the Actor” Koestner, Danny Clark, Jack Ward, and Luke Jackowski.
The big play came on defense when Michael Henglein hit one of the Rough Rider’s top backs so hard the ball came flying out. Then Bryan Bostwick started to chase down the football in a play that eerily reminded many of the fans of the ever famous “Holy Roller.”
Bostwick recovered the ball on the Roosevelt’s 18-yard line after it had rolled about 30 yards. Coach Kenny was screaming “Fumble, fumble” so loud that his wife, Shannon, called and told him to keep it down. When it was all said and done the Shamrocks had yet another tough defeat, but they walked off the field with their heads held high.
This week’s Shamrock Fan of the Week is Peter “Senior” Meehan. Peter is one of the first parents to offer his service to work the chains at the game and always shows up to the field with a smile – even when his team is loosing. The main reason Peter is the fan of the week is because word has it that two weeks ago he tried to rework a family getaway in order to show up to both the Pee Wee game on Saturday and the Midget game on Sunday.
This week the Midget Shamrocks have a home game against North Babylon on Saturday at 7:30. Right Guard Michael O’Connell said he will cut his Tom Brady-like hair if the Shamrocks win. So hopefully they win because Michael’s father is frustrated that he can’t see through his son’s bangs.
