St. Francis First Grade Boys Team Soccer Update

The SFDS First Grade Boys (team #2) played two exciting games at home over the weekend. In a close match against Anastasia on Saturday, strong defense by SFDS players Matthew Marten, Christopher Light, Tanner Diamond, Freddy Teich and Brendan Byrne in goal kept any threats out of the Saint Francis net.

After a scoreless half, the SFDS offense went to work. Constant pressure by Kieran Courtney, Robert Agoglia, Lenny Mannino, Gunner Skammel, Luke Carson, Jason Machado and Patrick Ayrovainen paid off. The winning and only goal was a double effort by Patrick Ayrovainen and Luke Carson, who both came down the middle next to each other and kicked the ball in together. Freddy Teich took over goaltending duties in the second half to share in the shutout.

On a windy Sunday afternoon, the First Grade Boys once again were victorious, this time against Blessed Trinity. Scoring in the first half was St. Francis’ Jason Machado. Minutes later, Blessed Trinity would put one in to make it 1-1 at the half.

The SFDS offense of Brendan Byrne, Kevin Dougherty, Gunner Skammel, James Walker and Chris Light pushed themselves in the second half and never gave up. Blessed Trinity had several good chances, but several great saves by Goalie Lenny Mannino kept the score tied.

With minutes left in the game, Luke Carson got past the defense and found Patrick Ayrovainen in front of the net, who drilled one past the Trinity goaltender. The late goal held, as did the strong defense of Robbie Agolia, Jojo Grillo, Matthew Marten, and Kieran Courtney. St. Francis squeaked out a 2-1 victory.
