Shamrocks Defense Gets Tough In Loss To Plainview
The Broad Channel Midget Shamrocks were home this past Sunday for the second time this year and the stands were filled to capacity to cheer on the Green Machine. The Shamrocks took on Plainview in a defensive matchup that people will be talking about for years. Coach Kenny Jackowski spent all week reading his defensive strategy novel out load to Head Coach Gene Guttieri and it paid off big time. The defense was swarming the Plainview offense all day. Leading the hit brigade for the Shamrocks were Andrew Visconti, Tyler Strika, Michael O’Connell, Peter Meehan, Johnny Weiss, Kevin Koestner and Danny “Hitman” Clark.
The big defensive star of the day was Jack Ward as he set a Shamrock record with three fumble recoveries in the first half. The offense for the Green Machine saw a new addition to the backfield – Dillon Ostrander, and he did not disappoint. He came up with some very big runs that resulted in first downs. The rest of the backfield, made up of Jack Allen, Bryan Bostwick, Mike Henglein, Ian Byrne and Timmy McCabe, had huge gains on the day as well.
Coach Charlie Bostwick said he was once again proud of his offensive line, and said that they get better every week. The line, made up of Thomas Houck, Matt McCabe, James Tuohey, Jack Collins and Sebastian “Sea Bass” Frieberg, made holes big enough for a Mac truck to drive through. In the end Plainview’s defense was just as tough as the Shamrocks. The defensive gem of a game ended 6-0 in favor of Plainview.
There has been lots of talk about the Shamrock Fan of the Week, and lots of nominations were submitted. This week’s winner is none other than Keith “Rug” Houck. The Shamrock Fan has not missed a game in two years and is always one of the first fans to show up. Three things that Keith loves are helping out with the first down chains, remembering Tim Hickey’s and talking Shamrock football.
The team says thank you to all the fans that showed up to support the Shamrock’s last week. So if you want to be in the running for Shamrock Fan of the Week then make the trip out to Roosevelt this Sunday as the Shamrocks take to the road for a 10 a.m. game.
