BCAC Pony Shamrocks Football Team Puts Up Valiant Effort In Road Loss At Roosevelt

The BCAC Pony Shamrocks traveled to Roosevelt to play the blue and gold. Despite being outsized the Shamrocks hung tough losing 20-6.

The Shamrocks came out with a shaky start giving up touchdowns on Roosevelt’s first and third possessions. But then the boys started to battle back. The offensive line led by center Kyle Hilgendorf, Michael Edwards Charles Bostwich, John Nolan, Salvatore Lalumia, Bobby Martin, Mathew Valentino and Patrick Minihane provided support for quarterback Jordan Jessup.

He would hand the ball to “44 Express” who ran for 196 yards including a 50- yard touchdown run. Jessup ran for 42 yards. Fullback Robert Kollmer ran for 38 yards and provided key blocks to help spring the “Express Man” for large gains. Vincent Vosconti and Kieran Mills also banged heads with Roosevelt’s defense when they entered the game to give relief to the offensive line.

The Shamrocks offense was on the way to a second touchdown late in the first half only to be stopped by the clock which ended the first half 13-6.

Coaches Darren Kollmer and Richard Martin fired up the defense for the second half.

Roosevelt was held to only one touchdown in the second half. The defensive line consisted of Vincent Cavananagh, Mathew Butler, Salvatore Lalumia, John Nolan, Michael Edwards, Kyle Hilgendorf, Robert Kollmer, who led the team with 10 tackles, and Jordan Jessup who had 8 of his own. Charles Bostwich had 6 tackles and caused a fumble in the backfield that was almost recovered by John Nolan. Mathew Butler, who worked hard all week to play, also caused a fumble that was recovered by Roosevelt. Kyle Hilgendorf busted through the Roosevelt line for 4 tackles, one for a 10-yard loss.

“44 Express” saved three touchdowns on the day by running down the Roosevelt running backs when they thought they were in the clear.

Playing safety for the Shamrocks were David Cancel, Michael Reardon and Steven Kenny, who would also step into the linebacker position when needed with Charles Bostwich, Patrick Minihane and Bobby Martin.

The BCAC Pony Shamrocks’ next game is against Amityville on Saturday, October 9, at 6:00 p.m. The team encourages all to come out to BCAC Mem-orial Field to see them play.
