Cleo Gadsden, 76, a longtime Rockaway resident, died September 22.
Gadsden was born in Columbia, South Carolina on June 23, 1934. He worked as a cook.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Mitchell; children, Alphonso Cleo Gadsden (Alvina) and Norman Gadsden of Jersey City, New Jersey; stepsons, Willie Mitchell, Ronald Mitchell of Durham, North Carolina, John Mitchell of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Charlie Mitchell of Pennsylvania and Christopher Mitchell of New York; sisters, Evelyn Mack (Tyrone), Vivian Dumoshie (Francis), Francis Humphrsy of Atlanta, Georgia and Doris Lyans of Bronx, New York; brothers, David Coleman, Conn, Rodney Coleman (Sandra) of Arizona, John Coleman (Pat) of Elmsford, New York and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends and neighbors including, Annette, Yzette Parker and goddaughter, Jay Jay.
Funeral arrangements and memorial service were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney Friendship Chapel, Inwood, New York. Disposition took place at St. Michael’s Crematory, East Elmhurst, New York.
