St. Francis De Sales Welcomes New Year

Balls are bouncing, student work is being hung up, and prayers are being said. Yes, it is the start of a new year at St. Francis de Sales School and what a great start it has been. Students and teachers have been enjoying the SMART Boards that have been installed in more than nine classrooms. Everyone can enjoy videos, math games, and Internet access at a push of a button.

What a far cry from the classrooms of the past.

The new state of the art Science Lab will be opening in a few weeks. Students in all classes are eagerly waiting their turn at becoming future scientists. All classes are busy learning Spanish and will begin practicing for their annual Christmas Concert.

The Chess Club will be meeting again, and the After School Program is in full swing. Plans for starting an Art Club are being discussed.

Children in the Pre-K programs are enjoying a full curriculum of Spanish, Physical Education, computer and library. They have daily visits to the gross motor playroom and, on sunny days, they spend time in the fresh air in the outdoor playground.

Back to school night, as usual, proved to be an informative and enjoyable evening for both parents and teachers. What a great opportunity for the teachers to share their plans and expectations for the school year.

Trips are being planned, projects created, and high schools are being visited. The seventh and eighth grade classes have already visited Governor’s Island.
