This Is The Rockaway Café And It’s Scary!
The Rockaway Theatre Company is busily at work preparing for next week’s opening of its annual musical variety show, The Rockaway Café. This year’s show is chock-full of great music and fantastic dance. The production boasts a cast of 65 extremely talented performers ranging in age from 7 to 70. The show will open on October 15 and will be performed on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for three whole weekends. The closing performance will take place on October 31. With this in mind, it shouldn’t be difficult to figure out this year’s theme … Rockaway Café is subtitled “A Little Fright Music” and will feature the sounds of the fall season, which include the work of a very eclectic group of artists ranging from Lady Gaga to Michael Jackson.
There are some special events scheduled during the three week run of the show.
The 6th annual Carol Jasper Memorial Benefit performance will take place at the October 24 matinee. All proceeds from this performance will be donated to North Shore Animal League America, which is the largest no-kill animal shelter on the eastern seaboard.
There will be lovable puppies and kittens as well as healthy adult dogs and cats available for adoption in the North Shore Mobile Adoption vehicle which will be parked outside the Post Theater beginning at 12 p.m. Prospective adopters are welcome to come out and add some very special new members to their families.
Audiences attending the final performance on October 31 are invited to come to the show in costume. Valuable prizes will be awarded for the best costumes in three categories.
