The Arverne By The Sea Stop & Shop will open to the general public on Friday, October 22. The Arverne By The Sea Stop & Shop will open to the general public on Friday, October 22. The highly anticipated Stop & Shop supermarket in Arverne By The Sea will officially open its doors to the general public on Friday, October 22. In addition, there will be a Citizens Bank located inside the store.

The Stop & Shop will be the first of the three centerpiece amenities of the Arverne By The Sea project to be completed. The others, the YMCA and the Retail Transit hub, are moving in positive directions as well, Arverne By The Sea Project Manager Gerri Romski said this week.

The YMCA received positive news last week from the mayor’s office that allows construction on the facility to resume after extra funding was allocated by Councilmember James Sanders Jr.

According to Romski there are revisions to the plan’s specifications that must still be completed. He anticipates this will take only two weeks, at which time an agreement with the contractor could be finalized. Construction on the Y can resume, hopefully, by early November, Romski says.

“We’re thankful to the mayor and his administration and are optimistic work can recommence sometime in the fall,” he said.

The contractor will provide a more accurate timeline for construction once an agreement is finalized. The Retail Plaza’s construction is underway as well, Romski reported. The transit hub will neighbor the Beach 67 Street train stop and will include various retail stores and restaurants.
