On Sunday October 3, local authors Liz and Dan Guarino presented the Broad Channel Historical Committee with materials used in producing their book, “Images of America: Broad Channel.”

The occasion was the Broad Channel Historical Day, held at the VFW Prince-Wynn Post from noon to 5 p.m. On view to the public were thousands of photographs, hundreds of articles and maps, and many artifacts of Broad Channel’s vibrant past. Included were a huge sign for Grassy’s Lounge, then a cabaret and well-known nightspot and a full place setting, right down to the authentic chair, from Weiss’ nationally famous restaurant.

The Guarino’s gave the Historical Committee more than a dozen compact discs containing more than two hundred images they digitally restored, repaired and transferred in preparation for their book, a first of its kind history of this unique island community. Liz, who writes a weekly column for The Wave, and Dan were also on hand to sign and personalize copies of the book. Also a photographer, Dan displayed many of his photos which capture the beauty and charm of Broad Channel.
