BCAC Midget Shamrocks Fall To Hempstead Tigers
The BCAC Midget Shamrocks took to the road for the second time in the season this past Sunday as they took on the Tigers of Hempstead. Many of the young Shamrocks thought they were in Boise State because some of the turf was blue.
Coach Gene had the Shamrocks go back to smash mouth football as the backfield made up of Timmy McCabe, Bryan Bostwick and Mike Henglein grinded out the ball all day long.
Quarterback Jack Allen never flinched throughout the game and made sure his backs got the ball, even with the constant pressure being provided by the Tigers defense. The big spark came from Ian “Speedy” Byrne this week, as he broke two runs for huge gains. The offensive line played exceptionally as usual, headed by Peter Meehan, Matt McCabe, Sebastian Frieberg, Thomas Houck, Michael O’Connell, Johnny Wiess and Jack Ward.
Coach Kenny’s green machine defense was hitting Tigers so hard that the fans on the other side of the field could hear them. The big stars on defense were Joey Iannello, Kevin Koestner, Luke Jackowski, Janeek Miller, Dillon Ostrander and Jack Collins. Danny Clark came up with two huge tackles; one of them stopped a touchdown. James Tuohey was constantly creating havoc on the field and seemed to be in on all the hits on defense. The Midget Shamrocks suffered another tough loss but are hoping to bounce back and be ready for next week.
Coach Gene Guttieri received a lifetime achievement award this past Saturday at the 11th Annual Monahan Softball Tournament. Gene not only does a lot of work for the BCAC but he does a lot for Broad Channel.
Some people are still wondering whether the tears in Gene’s eyes were for being overwhelmed by a touching moment or the fact that he got the OK to purchase a new paint machine for BCAC Memorial Field.
This week’s Shamrock Fan of the Week is none other than Mickey “Monster of the Midway” McMahon. Mickey made the trek out to Hempstead to cheer on the Shamrocks, hold the down marker and talk Bears football with some of the kids.
This Sunday, the Midget Shamrocks are home at 11:30 a.m. against Plainview. So come on down, yell real loud and maybe you can win Shamrock Fan of the Week.
