Patrick Joseph Hayden

Armored Car Courier

Patrick Joseph Hayden, 79, a former Rockaway resident, died September 23.

Hayden was born in New York City and grew up and raised his family in Rockaway Beach. He worked as an armored car courier and later moved to Inwood, New York. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War. He belonged to the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus, and the Keystone Yacht club.

Hayden was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Margaret Hayden (nee Brennan); brothers, Vincent and John; sisters, Eileen (Danny) Maloney and Peggy (ED) Savage.

He is survived by his brother, James Hayden (Jana); wife, Frances Hayden (nee Carrano); sons, Patrick (Anne) and Thomas Hayden; daughters, Margaret De Groff (Arthur), Kathleen Stempel (Vincent) Mary and Annie Hay-den; grandchildren, Patrick Hayden, Matthew De Groff, Erika and Raymond Stempel, Thomas, Elizabeth and Charles Hayden; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Donza Funeral Home, East Rockaway, New York. A funeral mass took place at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Inwood, New York. Interment remained private.
