I’m Not A Racist, But No Mosque

An open letter to Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the supporters of the controversial mosque.

Dear Editor,

Mayor Bloomberg, while I am not a gin head or a racist I am opposed to the construction of the mosque. I take very strong offense to your comments towards any individual disagreeing with your position on the construction so close to Ground zero. It does not surprise Letters me as you are an obnoxious, arrogant, blow hard who buys whatever he wants. Whether it be a mayoral election or term limits, your money wins over common sense. For months we were bombarded with your phone calls promising the voters the sun, moon and the stars if we elected you to a third term. Well they did and now we are stuck with you for another never ending term. While I personally think you should be investigated for your constant increase in wealth during such hard times, I realize you can’t fight city hall. But I can let you know Mr. Mayor how wrong you are on your position regarding the construction of the mosque.

As a New York City firefighter I worked tirelessly on and following 9/11 hoping to find survivors. As the days passed and we realized that we would not find anyone alive and the realization of the loss of so many brothers and friends our hearts grew very heavy. But we trudged on for months on end hoping to give so many families closure. So many still do not have that closure. Now people like you and Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and our “illustrious President Obama want us to forget this terrible day and back a Muslim mosque built so close to a sacred site. While I stand behind any individual’s right to practice his or her religion and where they practice it, I also realize common sense must come in to play, and a true religious individual would respect the feelings of so many families. So Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf prove to us how religious you are. Get together with your buddies Bloomberg and Obama and seek out another site for your construction project. Under Bloomberg and Obama there are so many foreclosures it should not be a tough endeavor. One last note. Can anyone tell me why every politician and newscaster in the US has been hammering some fanatical self-proclaimed pastor from Florida about the burning of the Koran, which if he does, I think it would be a despicable move. While all over the world in Muslim countries they are burning our American flag constantly, but nobody has anything to say regarding that. Has our flag, which so many great men and women have and continue to fight for become such a meaningless symbol to all our representatives. Makes you wonder just what is important to our politicians. We know what is important to our illustrious mayor and it sure is not the hard working people of New York. Never Forget!

PALMER DOYLE
