The Inner Voice

Commentary by Marilyn Gelfand

Never give up.

Sometimes we may be discouraged or unable to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and just give up. Life shows us that it is never over till it is over. I am not talking of making things or relationships work after they have already died. I mean caring about important projects for ourselves that we get discouraged about since the timing is not working, or helping someone else who seems hopeless, but is actually doing his best. Our insides let us know when we need to let go and when something is truly done.

Things that cause us to become discouraged are other people’s opinions and our own sense of timing which can hinge on our insecurities. The degree of emotional attachment can make the situation more painful, the more we feel about it.

Step back from the emotion, and perhaps an intuitive thought may come in to give you new guidance. Also taking a break and leaving it alone for awhile may give the solution time to formulate. Make sure within yourself that this is truly what is right for you and what you believe is happening. Are you doing it for yourself or because others have wanted you to?

If it feels right, keep on going.

Often things can happen through small steps. If we don’t see a grand chance of something occurring, we may be fooled into believing it can’t take place at all. Patience may be required to allow for incremental small successes. We can’t get discouraged because we must always remember the starting point and where we have come from.

Perseverance is not the same as just plain stubbornness with a desire to control. It is about making a reality happen that you truly believe in.
