First Grade Boys Soccer Team Wins First Game
On Friday night, September 17, at Roxbury Field, the Blessed Trinity Boys first grade soccer team took the field for their first experience playing against another CYO team. The boys were eager and took the field with anticipation. You could tell they were well prepared by Coach Kelly and played extremely well.
St. Francis de Sales #1 took a quick 1-0 lead on a penalty kick and added another goal late in the first half for a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The boys of Blessed Trinity regrouped at half and battled back with goals by Ed McCarthy-Coyne and Christopher Tennyson tying the score. Blessed Trinity continued to press the advantage, but ran out of time and settled for a well earned tie 2-2. All of the boys did well, with shout outs to Christopher Tennyson, Patrick Kelly, Tommy Davey, Luca Perrotta, Brian Yorke, Thomas Maclhenny and great goal tending by Jack.
The boys drove off to their first away game ever to play Our Lady of Hope 1 in Middle Village on Sunday afternoon (September 19).
The team put on quite a show! Coming out full of energy, the team played as though they had been playing together for years.
The team’s offense was led by Ed McCarthy-Coyne’s three goals with Luca Perrotta adding a fourth goal. Defensively the team was led by outstanding goaltending by Patrick Kelly and Chris Regan.
The boys displayed hustle and spirit throughout the contest and they were rewarded with a 4-2 victory.
Parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters urged the team on throughout the game giving the boys their support.
The boys will be on the road this Saturday playing Our Lady of Hope 2 at 10:15 a.m. On Sunday, they will return home to Roxbury Field at 3:30 p.m. to face St. Mel’s.
