Riis Park Arts Festival
It’s the weekend after Labor Day, Saturday morning. I just asked my wife when were we going to meet my son , daughter-in-law and grand kids at the Riis Park Festival. She told me it isn’t happening this year. No announcements, signs, public apologies? Guess not. Now, the Festival was not the world’s greatest show, nor was it something that I looked forward to with great anticipation through the year. What it was to us was an entertaining afternoon with the family. What it was to the many artists, artisans and entrepreneurs who set up and manned the booths and exhibits was an opportunity to promote and sell wares created by skill, talent and hard work. The essence of the much discussed Small Business that everybody claims drives the American economy. The Great Obama presidency and overwhelmingly Democrat Congress has spent a Trillion Dollars to allegedly stimulate the American economy, and this is the result. No money for a federal facility to promote local small business and artists. No money for activities enjoyed by local middle class families. By their fruits you shall know them.
