Saint John’s Episcopal Hospital Hosts Annual Ocean Walk

St. John’s Episcopal Hospital Development Board held the fifth annual Ocean Walk on Monday, September 13. More than $76,000 was raised for the state-of-the-art renovation of the Obstetrics/ Gynecology Unit at St. John’s, making it the most successful walk to date, in funds raised and number of participants.

More than 50 people took part in the walk, which began at 4 p.m. in front of the Hospital and proceeded to Beach 9 Street and back. The walk was followed by dinner served out-of-doors.

The event sponsors of the Ocean Walk included: Bartlett, McDonough, Bastone and Monaghan, LLP; Margaret and Tim Carpenter; Hunter Ambulance, Inc.; PeriGen, Inc.; Mindy Schneider and Dr. Michael Lesser; St. John’s Ladies Auxiliary; and Puangsri Suwankosai, MD, chairman, Department of Pathology.

St. John’s Episcopal Hospital has the only inpatient Obstetrics service in the Rockaways and the surrounding area. More than 10,000 babies have been born at the Hospital in the past ten years.

The Obstetrics/Gynecology Department offers prenatal care and testing, comprehensive fetal monitoring and testing and a full range of midwifery services with certified nurse midwives. There is a 25- bassinet nursery and a high-risk neonatal nursery for premature and sick newborns.
