Local Wins Police Commish For A Day

Neil Dufresne, a senior at Church of God Christian Academy, is pictured with Felix Urrutia, executive director of the Police Athletic League, following the ceremony at One Police Plaza at which the winners of the “Police Commissioner for a Day” essay contest were announced. It is a citywide competition for youth in 9th through 12th grades, administered by the PAL. Dufresne spent the day with Captain Michael LiPetri of the 101 Precinct. Commissioner Kelly is the honorary president of the Police Athletic League.

The essay question to which entrants responded this year was: “If you were Police Commissioner for a Day, what initiatives would you implement to address two of these major issues impacting on the city’s youth: guns, unemployment, interpersonal violence, and gangs?”
