Ulrich: Deadline For WTC Workers
Councilmember Eric A. Ulrich reminds all constituents who worked or volunteered at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 terror attacks of two important deadlines that are quickly approaching:
The deadline for eligible city and state employees to file a WTC-related Notice of Participation with their retirement system is September 11. The WTC Disability Law provides a disability retirement benefit for city and state employees who have become disabled from participating in the WTC rescue, recovery and clean-up operations between September 11, 2001 and September 12, 2002. For details on this program, workers should contact their retirement system (NYC Employees’ Retirement System, New York Fire Department Pension Fund or the Police Pension Fund).
The deadline for all WTC rescue, recovery and clean-up workers and volunteers to register with the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board is September 13. Registering will preserve the rights of workers and volunteers to file for 9/11-related compensation in the future, even if they are not sick now. Call 877-WTC-1208 or visit www.wtc12.org.
