Seymour Pine, 91, a former Bayswater resident, died September 2.
Pine was born in Manhattan on July 21, 1919 and is famously known for leading the raid in 1969 on the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village, a moment many believe sparked the gay liberation movement while working as the commanding officer of a lower Manhattan precinct.
Pine was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Handler.
He is survived by his sons, Daniel and Charles; brother, Arnold; sister, Connie Katz; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements remain private. Pine moved out of state after living for many years and becoming active in the Bayswater community.
