LIPA Board Names New COO
The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) Board of Trustees appointed Michael Hervey, Senior VP of Operations, as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of LIPA. Following the departure of current CEO Kevin Law on September 6, 2010, Hervey will perform the duties of CEO during the interim period until a new resident and CEO is appointed by the LIPA Board and confirmed by the New York State Senate.
Hervey has served in several senior level positions at LIPA since 2000, most recently as Senior VP of Operations. He has more than 29 years of electric utility experience. “The Board of Trustees is confident that Mike will be an effective COO and interim head of LIPA until we conclude our national search for our CEO,” said Howard Steinberg, Chairman of the LIPA Board. “I have seen Mike progress through the organization over the past 10 years and believe that he has the skills to serve LIPA and its customers well as he takes on his new responsibilities.”
“I feel honored to have been chosen as COO of LIPA,” said Hervey. “I will continue LIPA’s focus on providing safe and reliable electric service, improving customer communications and customer service and promoting energy efficiency and renewable programs.”
The announcement was made at LIPA’s Board meeting and shared with employees at a firm wide meeting subsequent to the Board meeting. Steinberg shared his thoughts with LIPA staff of Law’s tenure at LIPA. “We are truly thankful to Kevin Law for his superior leadership during the past three and a half years.
He has set the foundation for strategically planning for Long Island’s energy future.
We wish him continued success at his new post as President of the Long Island Association (LIA).”
