Cop Fires At Arverne Gun Thug

Two police officers from the 101 Precinct, on a routine patrol in an Arverne public housing project at about 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday evening, spotted a man armed with an automatic pistol, NYPD officials say. When the still-unidentified man, who was standing in front of 54-22 Beach Channel Drive, refused to drop the pistol and began to move it towards the police officers, officials say, one of the cops fired a single round at the gun thug. The man turned and fled. Pictured, police search for evidence in front of the apartment building. Detectives from the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway are investigating. Anyone with information is urged to call the 101 Squad at 718-868-3429. Photo by Susan Locke.
