Frances May Strining

Telephone Operator

Frances May Strining, 92, died at the Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip on August 10.

Born in Rockaway, Strining moved to Long Island 12 years ago.

She graduated from Far Rockaway High School and went on to be a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company.

She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Russell Sage Memorial Church in Far Rockaway, where she served as an officer and a member of the choir.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry P. Strining, who died in 1989 and her parents, Victor and Helen DeGroe.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Strining and his wife, Patricia of Oakdale, Long Island, her daughter, Patricia Stankevich of West Islip, Long Island, her sister, Betty Duncan of Florida, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on August 17 at the Meserole Funeral Home in Inwood, N.Y., Reverend David Moore presiding.

Interment followed at Trinity Churchyard in Hewlett, Long Island.
