Making Waves

Commentary By Jane Deacy Republican State Committee Member, 23rd AD

JANE DEACY JANE DEACY One need only to open the newspaper to realize that the upcoming political season promises to be a spirited one. Rightfully so, every incumbent within our geographic boundaries is being challenged by Republican candidates and in some cases challenged to primaries within their own Democratic party, because constituents have had enough and will no longer tolerate, “business as usual.”

I have not felt the need to write a column regularly because every day one opens the paper or listens to the news, and the stories are plentiful why a changing of the guard is necessary, and I do feel strongly that this upcoming general election, Nov. 2 will be a “wake up” call to all politicians across the nation.

We, the people, are not going to take it any longer! We are taking back our country and we will do it in the US Congress, we will do it in the US Senate, we will do it in the State Senate and we will do it in the State Assemblies. We have elected officials who are not listening to the people. We did not want the stimulus package to bail out companies and our elected officials voted it in.

We did not want the health care bill that was unread and our elected officials voted it in. We do want immigration laws enforced and yet our elected officials do not heed our opinions.

We do not want a mosque built in the shadow of Ground Zero for no other reason than the insensitivity of it, and yet our elected officials refuse to stand with us to oppose the building of this mosque. They must have an opinion, and their inaction to speak out against this mosque speaks volumes, and I believe that the people are listening as never before and will show their displeasure at the polls in November. They must be reminded they represent the people, and not their own agenda!

Before we get to November, however, there is a Primary Election on Sept. 14, 2010, when political parties vote to decide who will be their party candidates in the November 2 general election. In the past, Republicans more time than not, did not have primaries; however, this year, Republicans who are willing to take on their Democrat incumbents are plentiful. And so, on September 14, registered Republicans need to get to the polls to vote and move their candidates forward to the General Election.

The Republican candidates in upcoming primary election are:

Gubernatorial : Rick Lazio, Carl Palladino against Mario (oops Andrew) Cuomo; Lt. Governor: Greg Edwards, Tom Ognibene; US Senate:Gary Bernsten, Jay Townsend-against Chuck Schumer; Us Senate: Bruce Blakman, Joseph DiGuardi, David Malpasseagainst Kirsten Gillibrand.

The winners of the above primaries will join with Republican candidates Dan Donovan for Attorney General, and Harry Wilson for Comptroller to form the Republican ticket in the November general election.

As the Republican District Leader of the 23 AD, I remind you that every vote counts, and if you are not going to be here to vote on 9/14 or 11/2, it is your right and duty, to request and execute an absentee ballot. Please request one NOW by calling 718 730- 6749 or 718 730-6767 so it may be processed in a timely fashion.

I am also asking for your help going forward in two races that I am very much involved with Bob Turner for Congress and Dr. Harold Paez for Assembly. Last Thursday, 240 constituents of the 6 Congressional District, joined together at Russo’s on the Bay, and put their money where their mouths are to support Bob Turner in his bid for Congress against our very smooth talking, but less effective Congressman Anthony Weiner. We all know that he was the recipient of the health care tally card, given to him by Nancy Pelosi, for the role he played in passing Obamacare. We also know that he is in need of a mental health vacation after witnessing his meltdown while accusing Congressman Peter King of not supporting benefits for first responders of 9/11, when King was inquiring why Congressman Weiner did not simply put the bill forward for a simple majority, which would have passed easily. One’s motives must be questioned here and some seem to believe the 2/3 vote was orchestrated to allow for some press time for Congressman Weiner. Although Howie Schwach seems to think this tirade fared well for Weiner, the feedback that I am hearing, indicates that many think it was all an act... What do you think? Mr. Bob Turner with his life time of business experience and common sense approach vs. and out of control career politician wants to rein in Washington with other like minded Congressmen that are also elected in November with your help.

Every day people ask me what they can do to help. Fortunately in this day and age it is easy to get involved both through voluntarism and financial support. Time and money are both needed to get the word out. Every contribution of time and money, however small or large, will help our candidates. With your help, they will MAKE WAVES in the 23 AD and the 6th CD.
