He is an accomplished painter, sculptor and photographer who also produces high quality fine art reproductions. Yurov is a member of the growing arts community of Rockaway.
“Rockaway Artists Unframed” is a collection of more than 125 photographic portraits created by Yurov of artists of this community.
The public will have the opportunity to see these stunning black and white portraits at a limited two-day exhibition, “Rockaway Artists Unframed,” that opens with an evening reception on Saturday, August 21 at 7 p.m. and continues on Sunday, August 22, 12-4 p.m.
Presented in the Rockaway Artists Alliance’s sTudio 7 Gallery, Rockaway Center for the Arts in Fort Tilden, the exhibit and reception are free to the public.
These revealing portraits stand on their own as a major artistic body of work. They also stand as an extraordinary historic document of a colony of diverse visual, performing and literary artists who live and/or work on the Rockaway peninsula.
Some are members of the various arts groups of Rockaway that include the Rockaway Theatre Company, the Rockaway Artists Alliance and the Rockaway Music and Arts Council; others are completely unaffiliated. They range from talented children who have appeared on the Rockaway stage to veterans like RTC Artistic Director John Gilleece, master printmaker Christian Le Gars and stained glass master Patrick Clark.
Printing on the finest quality paper, with high quality techniques and equipment, Yurov has achieved a clarity of image that does justice to the subtle lighting and deep contrasts in portraits that capture the individual intensity, humor, spirit, humanity – the indefinable incandescence – of the subjects of “Rockaway Artists Unframed.”
