Cop Battered Breaking Up Female Fight
A cop assigned to the 101 Precinct was badly battered at Dix Avenue and Beach Channel Drive and sent to the hospital on Monday evening while he was trying to break up a fight between two women, police sources say.
The police officer on routine patrol in Far Rockaway spotted the two women fighting at about 5:43 p.m. on August 2. One of the women involved in the fight, who asked not to be identified for fear of retribution, told The Wave that she was fighting with the sister of the man who battered the cop. “We was fighting, and the girl’s brother came up and punched me,” she said. “When the cop went to arrest the guy’s sister, he came up and punched the cop from behind.
She could only identify the wanted assailant by his street name, “Cheeks.” He was identified by police on Wednesday afternoon, however, as Terrell Montgomery, five feet, six inches tall and approximately 170 pounds.
Montgomery allegedly struck the cop so hard on the back of his head that he became unconscious and fell to the ground. “[The cop] was blindsided and left unconscious on the ground,” a local source said, adding that the two women and the assailant fled the scene. The unidentified officer was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he remains in stable condition with a concussion. Police officials called a Level 1 Mobilization, which brought police officers from all over southern Queens, as well as specialized units such as aviation, canine and emergency
Despite a long search, neither the women nor Montgomery was found, although several suspects were brought in for questioning in connection with the assault.
Detectives from the 101 Squad are investigating. Anybody with information is urged to contact Detective Michael Gildea at 718-868-3429.
