By Anne Marie Turner

Monday, July 26, two women from Queens were in a fatal accident upstate in Cayuga County on the New York State Thruway more than 300 miles away from Queens County, leaving one dead at the scene.

Bindomatie Persaud, 68, of Hollis, Queens was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident after being thrown from the vehicle, according to the Cayuga County Medical Examiner.

Debbie Wallace, 50, of Far Rockaway was driving east on the Thruway when, at just before 4:20 p.m., she drove off the south shoulder of the highway and overcorrected. Wallace drove across both lanes of traffic and onto the north bound shoulder where her vehicle overturned several times, said New York State Police Trooper Mark O’Donnell.

The accident occurred in Montezuma in Cayuga County near mile marker 311 on the Thruway. This is just one of five fatal crashes that happened in Cayuga County between Monday, July 26 and Tuesday, July 27.
