Tragedy Strikes BCHS Basketball Coach

Tragedy struck the family of the long-time Beach Channel High School basketball coach on July 15 when two of his daughters were killed in a horrific one-car crash on the Meadowbrook Parkway in Nassau County.

Jim Malone, who has guided the Dolphin’s basketball program for 22 years was distraught when he found out that his two daughters, Jaime Malone, 22 and Paige Malone, 19 were among the three young camp counselors who died in the crash on their way to the Long Beach camp for disabled children, there the three worked for the summer.

The two young women and Michael Mulhall, 22, all from Floral Park, died when their car veered off the parkway and slammed into a tree.

“We lost three great kids from this town, two from my family,” Malone told New York Post reporters. “They were wonderful kids. They did things the right way, were never in any trouble. It’s terrible. We’re just devastated.”

Two other passengers were in the car. Both of them were treated for minor injuries at Nassau University Medical Center and released.
