Last year, in addition to the food, a bounce house … Last year, in addition to the food, a bounce house … Games, fun and food. The 101 Precinct, its Community Council, volunteers and contributors are getting ready to celebrate the 27th Annual National Night Out Against Crime (NNOAC) at O’Donohue Park on Beach 17 Street in Far Rockaway on August 3.

“This is basically like a big barbecue or a big party,” said Denean Ferguson, the vice president of the 101 Precinct Community Council, at the July 21 meeting. She further describes the event as, “the police department and the community coming together and addressing crime prevention.”

While plans are still being finalized, Ferguson said, “We’re hoping to have a talent show going on … the Wii game for the kids, basketball games going on, some inflatable rides, obviously there’s a barbecue, [and] the crime prevention teams will be out to do the bikes or cell phones for etching.”

And entertainment was just one of the highlights of the 101 Precinct’s National Night Out Against Crime event. Council president Justin Cauley said that volunteers are still needed “to help break down, to help set up [during the event].”

While contributions are still being sought, it does not need to be monetary. Cauley said organizations or businesses could donate food, water or even condiments. Anybody who wants to volunteer or make a donation can call Ferguson at 646-552-8453.

“Fun, free activities for the community and the idea again is enhancing the police/community relationship and making the community aware [and] just getting that information out there of many different things,” said Ferguson.

The 101 Precinct’s National Night Out event will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m.
