100 Precinct CC Hosts Summer Volleyball

The 100 Precinct Community Council Youth Committee kicked off their first day of a free Volleyball Clinic on the sand at Beach 119 Street, for Rockaway children on July 13. The Volleyball Clinic will run every Tuesday for six weeks from July 13 until August 24, omitting August 3, since that is the day of National Night Out. The ages of the children participating are from 7 years old through 16 years old. The Youth Committee purchased nets and volleyballs with the money raised from their annual fundraisers. To date, 30 children have registered. “The children are having some summer fun and look forward to every Tuesday,” stated Linda Ruscillo, chairperson of the Youth Committee. Ruscillo said her Youth Committee partner, Pat Wood, came up with the idea. Some community residents are giving their time to teach the children how the game is played. The Youth Committee is planning a barbeque at the end of the six weeks for the children who participated. “It is very important to offer our Rockaway children activities year round and especially in the summer months,” Ruscillo said.
