Boardwalk Collapses During Lighting Repairs


Two small sections of the Rockaway boardwalk at Beach 91 Street and Beach 100 Street collapsed last Thursday when a Department of Transportation (DOT) contractor (pictured here) was fixing lighting along the boardwalk. The weight of the truck caused the baordwalk to give way, a spokesperson for the Departmnet of Parks and Recreation said this week. According to Parks, no one was hurt and the sections were inspected and secured. The sites of the collapse will remain closed while Parks repairs the walkway and works with DOT to repair the lighting without further damage to the boardwalk.
