NYJTL Offers Local Summer Tennis, Education Programs
New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) began its 40th year of Summer Community Tennis Programs on July 6 providing FREE tennis lessons and equipment, tournament competition, special tennis events and field trips to children ages 6-18. The NYJTL summer program runs eight weeks from July 6 - August 27. Children can sign-up at any NYJTL site during the season. There is no registration deadline. A parent or guardian must register in-person with their child at the location they choose to attend.
Rockaway will host the NYJTL program Monday through Friday at Bayswater State Park, located at Beach 32 Street and Dickens Avenue, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
It will also take place at Beach Channel High School, located at 100-00 Beach Channel Drive from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
In addition to free tennis instruction by USTA-certified instructors, children receive educational services and tutoring, including the popular Summer Reading Club program where children “earn” free books by reading books.
NYJTL participants will attend special tennis events including: trips to Sportimes WorldTeamTennis at Randall’s Island; a Mets Game outing at CitiField Stadium; competing in the Summer Jamboree Tennis Tournament held at Crotona Park in the Bronx and participating in designing site banners for the Disney Kids’ Day Parade where they will display their banners.
Kids will be attending the Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day at the US Open where they will see their favorite tennis stars along with the latest music sensations; watching the US Open Qualifying round; a day trip to the Bronx Zoo; and more.
