Thomas J. Craven

Operating Engineer

Thomas Joseph Craven, 94, a former Broad Channel resident, died June 28.

Craven was born May 25, 1916 in Corona, New York. He worked and was a member of the operating engineers local 14/14b. Craven served in the US Navy in World War II as a gunners mate from 1944-1945. He belonged to the Nut Club Football League in Broad Channel, known by the nickname “Dodo”. Craven was also a member of St. Virgilius Church in Broad Channel and St. Joseph’s Church in Palm Bay, Florida. After more than 45 years in Broad Channel he moved to Winter Haven, Florida and eventually settled in Melbourne, Florida in 1985.

Craven is survived by wife, Hannah “Nancy” Craven; daughters, Carol McCormack (Edward) of Melbourne, Florida and Nancy Taaffe of Atlantic Beach, New York; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass was held at St. Joseph’s in Palm Bay, Florida. Interment followed at Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay, Florida.
