Time For A Political Change

Dear Editor,

I have been following politics in Rockaway for nearly 40 years. I have always been a registered Democrat and have usually voted for that party’s candidates, unless there was an unusually-qualified Republican running against the Democratic candidate.

That is no longer the case. I cannot, in all good faith, vote for the local Democratic candidates in the upcoming November election.

Why?

Let me count the ways.

Our Congressman, Gregory Meeks, is a joke, and a corrupt one at that. His ties to Allen Stanford would be enough to disqualify him. When you add the double-dealing on his new home, his involvement with New Directions Local Development Corporation and the Katrina charity, NOAH-F, it makes for an ugly picture indeed.

State Senator Malcolm Smith is another who needs to sit at home. His involvement with Meeks in New Development, his charter school adventures and his other fundraising all show his character. It is time to go.

WILLIAM FOEHN
