Forgotten Hosts Of Wounded Warriors

Dear Editor,

Ms. Dunne, I read your column today and found it to be inaccurate in your opening comments and praise concerning the Wounded Warrior Program. You mention and credit only a few isolated communities as having been involved in the weekend’s events. You specify the Rockaway residents of Belle Harbor, Rockaway Point and Breezy Point as those honoring the Vets. What about the rest of the Rockaway community, which volunteered their time, their homes and their personal expenses to house and entertain the Veterans. Why do you only mention certain parts of Rockaway and ignore the rest of the community who contributed at least equally. Your comments further divide a community that was truly united by this worthy cause. Your praise was unnecessarily limiting where the accolades should have been for the entire Rockaway community that stepped up to make the Veterans feel welcomed.

I would hope that you reflect on your comments and in your next column make amends. To check the facts, consult with Flip Mullen to find out the people throughout the Rockaway area who participated this year and in previous years.
