SJEH Announces Its Employees Of The Month
St. John’s Episcopal Hospital is pleased to announce the Employees of the Month for April, May and June 2010. St. John’s Episcopal Hospital selects one employee each month who exemplifies the qualities of the Hospital Core Values and who has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Nominations are made by patients and staff. All honorees receive $100 and a crystal star from Tiffany’s.
Employee of the Month of April:
Fein, Telephone Operator, Communications, has been employed at St. John’s since 1995. She was nominated by Administrative Office staff members Rowena Ancheta and Averie Baynes, as well as Lynore Dupiton, Vice President of Patient Care Services. These nominators noted how Fein created “pocket cards” with commonly used telephone extensions and the key to the emergency response codes, which has made it much easier to make a quick call or understand when an emergency response code is announced.
Whenever there is a new policy or information to pass along in the department, Fein ensures that her coworkers are aware. Whenever Fein is called upon, she helps in any way possible and always gets the job done.
Virginia Livingston, Fein’s supervisor, called Fein a team player, always going above and beyond her duties to help patients, families and staff. The honoree exemplifies the Hospital’s Core Values of Responsibility and Professionalism.
Employee of the Month of May:
Newell, Service Assistant on the Telemetry Unit and employed at St. John’s since 2001, was nominated by her fellow Service Assistant Akosua Oheneapong, as well as by Nurse Manager Vida McCue. Oheneapong notes that Newell trained her when she first came to Telemetry, and that the honoree helps everyone on the floor in order to provide better patient care. Oheneapong states that Newell’s enthusiasm is an inspiration to the entire Telemetry staff.
McCue says that patients consistently compliment Newell on her dedication. Newell has the utmost respect for the patients, listening to the patients’ and families’ needs and concerns, and meeting their needs accordingly. McCue called Newell the “best team player in town,” who constantly encourages other Telemetry staff to provide optimal care to the patients, and to value patient and family input. Her professionalism is beyond measure, as she takes pride in what she does for the benefit of her patients, remaining calm under pressure at all times, and always preserving the dignity and privacy of her patients.
Employee of the Month of June:
Williams, Secretary in the Community Mental Health Center (CMHC), has been employed at St. John’s since 1996. She was nominated by her coworkers and Mary Beth Bertolini, LCSW, and Kathleen Raquet, LMSW.
Williams answers phones, assists doctors and social workers with scheduling, and handles billing. Bertolini commends Williams for being a remarkable, dedicated, professional employee, accomplishing everything while running around on four-inch heels! Raquet says that Williams always goes out of her way to be helpful.
Williams’ supervisor, Mary Roohan, noted, “To say that Ms. Williams goes above and beyond would be an understatement.” Roohan stated that Williams gives the term “multi task” new meaning – always extending herself in several directions at once to help others, and always following up to make sure the clients are receiving the best care possible. Staff and clients alike regularly comment on Williams’ professionalism and genuine contribution to the Center. Williams’ performance exemplifies Respect, Professionalism and Teamwork.
