Rockaway Sports Shorts: Locals Compete At ESG Games

The Empire State Games is the largest competition of its kind in the nation in which amateur athletes compete in an Olympic style event from all around New York State. This year’s event will be held in the Buffalo/Niagara region from July 21-25. Athletes will compete in the scholastic, open and masters divisions. Here are a few local athletes will be competing in their respective sports: TJ Petronis for Men’s Open Soccer, Matthew Petronis for Scholastic Baseball, Anthony Reyes and Edward Sullivan will compete in Scholastic Basketball.

Rockapulco Finale

The Rockapulco Summer Series will conclude with their grand finale, the Pete Lovett-Rockapulco Run, on Friday, July 23. The finale will involve registration to win shirts, awards and following the completion of the run, a post race party will take place. The event will take place on the boardwalk at Beach 95 Street, starting at 7 p.m. It will consist of a quarter mile, mile and 5K runs on the boardwalk, which is open to all people of all ages.
