John A. Finneran

FDNY Firefighter

John A. Finneran, 77, a former Rockaway and Broad Channel resident, died July 1.

Finneran was born in Manhattan on March 27, 1933 and worked as a firefighter for the FDNY. He lived in Rockaway and Broad Channel for 44- years before moving to Florida in 1978. He served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 in the U.S. Army. Finneran belonged to Legionaire Post 110 in Port Charlotte, Florida and Post 80 in Saint Cloud, Florida for 33 years and was a member the of Elks, and Eagles in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Finneran was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie; father, John; brothers, Mickey, Joseph, Thomas, William, Eugene and John; and sister, Helen Drake.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Geoghegan); brother, Edward (Bee Bee) Finneran; son, John O’Leary; daughters, Dianne Yepes, Elizabeth Atchison, Bernadette O’Leary and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements remained private.
