Homeless Man Stabbed To Death

By Howard Schwach

A 49-year-old homeless man was stabbed to death on Independence Day after a verbal dispute with three still-unidentified men, police say.

According to police, they were called to 160 Beach 20 Street at about 8:10 p.m. on July 4 for a report of a man stabbed outside of a bodega.

When responding police arrived at the scene, they found Richard Salter, whose address is given as 307 Beach 17 Street, but who eyewitnesses say was a homeless man who lived in many locations around the Far Rockaway community.

Salter had a bad stab wound to his right leg and was transported to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police sources told The Wave that Salter was well-known in the Far Rockaway area and had “many” run-ins with local police.

The homicide was the fifth of the year in the 101 Precinct, which had only two by this time last year.

Detectives from the 101 Squad are investigating. Anybody with information is urged to call the detectives at 718-868- 3429.

Wow, an unflattering

Wow, an unflattering representation of the victim. Almost makes it seem as if the murderers did a public service.
