Tribute Park Future Site Of 9/11 Steel
Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer was pleased to join the Friends of Tribute Park and many local members of the FDNY in announcing that Tribute Park will be the location for the future site of a memorial sculpture featuring steel from the World Trade Center. The announcement came at a recent “Rock in the Park Concert.”
The Friends of Tribute Park went through a lengthy legal process in the federal courts to be granted ownership of the steel. The steel was inventoried from the World Trade Center and is currently stored in a hangar at JFK Airport until its transportation to the site.
“This is a wonderful tribute for all the heroes our community lost on 9/11. I am glad to assist the Friends of Tribute Park in erecting this monument and providing this site for all to honor and pay respect to those we lost in this terrible tragedy,” said Pheffer.
The assemblywoman has awarded the group funding from the NYS Community Capital Assistance Program to fund the project, which includes construction of the platform, transportation and placement of the steel, as well as the necessary permits and NYC Arts Commission approval process.
