Friends Of Tribute Park To Host 'Sunset In The Park'
On Thursday, July 22, “Friends of Tribute Park” will host “Sunset in the Park.” This annual fundraiser for the park, which is a memorial to those who died on September 11, 2001 and the 343 firefighters who died trying to save to save them, begins at 6 p.m. The rain date is Friday, July 23.
This year there will be three bands performing. “Aerial Acoustics,” a guitar duo of original music, “Wine With Sue,” the popular Rockaway band which plays rock covering the 1970s through today’s biggest hits and “Borough of Kings” will all play.
“Borough of Kings” recently won the Battle of the Bravest, a band competition that requires at least one band member to be with the FDNY. They were judged by many top music industry experts and awarded the top prize.
Firefighter John Burke of Ladder 137 on Beach 116 Street is a band member. “This will be ‘Borough of Kings’ first area appearance. Because of Tribute Park’s significance to firefighters and to all those affected by 911 it will be an honor to contribute to the event.”
All proceeds from the event will go toward paying off the remaining $22,000 in debt from the original park construction and to funding ongoing maintenance.
Hors d’oevres will be catered by Ludwig’s, wine provided by Station Liquors and beer by Brooklyn Brewery. The FDNY Marine Unit will provide the water boat display.
This event is also sponsored by the DeMatteis family, Business Relocation Services, RMAC, Rockaway Rotary Club, Belle Harbor Garden Club, Shore Garden Club, and Robin Shapiro Realty.
Admission is $35 and children under 12 are admitted for free. Tickets are available from Brown’s Hardware, John Burke at the Beach 116 Street firehouse, Nadia Murphy and Bernie Warnock.
