Rockaway Little League Ends Banner 56th Baseball Campaign

Pee Wee All Star swings for the fences. Pee Wee All Star swings for the fences. The Rockaway Little League, headquartered at Fort Tilden, finished its 56th season last weekend. More than 750 kids on 51 teams competed in one of the largest youth programs in the Rockaways. After a weekend of division all-star games, championship games for each division showed off Rockaway’s talent on the diamond.

Here are the following Rockaway Little League champions and the second place teams: Pee Wee Senior Division Champions – DJ’s at Work Pirates, second place – Lynbrook Sterling Optical Braves; Minor Girls Division Champions – Shape Up Ladies Fitness Marlins, second place —Sconzo & Sconzo D.M.D. Orioles; Minor Boys Division Champions – Trident Marine Surveyors Cardinals, second place – East Meets West Marlins.

Major Girls Division Champions – Vintage Abstract Corp Cubs, second place – F.C. Gerlach & Co, Inc Braves; Major Boys Division Champions – Plum Tomatoes Rockies, second place – NY Stars Ice Hockey Orioles; Junior Boys Division Champions – Winner Walsh Properties Angels, second place – Guarrera Management LLC Orioles.

A challenger Division Grand Slam home run. A challenger Division Grand Slam home run. The Rockaway Little League’s board of directors would like to thank the parents, volunteers, coaches, and especially the kids for making this one of the most successful seasons in league history.

In addition to baseball games, this year’s highlights included: Opening Day ceremonies, flagpole and field dedications, improved access for physically challenged players and fans, new bathrooms in the clubhouse. There was also the formation of the Challenger Division for kids who might not otherwise have been able to play little league, visits by Sandy the Seagull from the Brooklyn Cyclones and Mr. Met, and pre-season training camp.
