Ready Rockaway Holds Monthly Meeting
Guest speakers to the June monthly Ready Rockaway meeting were Dr. Daniel Canario, Director of Infectious Disease and Robin Blackwell, R.N., Vice President/Chief Nursing Executive, both of Peninsula Hospital Center. Dr. Canario gave the attendees an update of the H1N1 vaccine availability for the upcoming flu season and Ms. Blackwell explained how the hospitals respond to a disaster using the Hospital Emergency Incident Management System (HEICS). A logical management structure, defined responsibilities and detailed reporting channels are utilized to aid hospitals and first responders in serving the community during a crisis and quickly restoring normal operations. HEICS is the standard in healthcare disaster response. Ready Rockaway is a peninsula-wide prototype of grassroots, committed residents’ eager effort to educate and prepare for emergencies. A healthcare provider coalition is another vital component of Ready Rockaway. Community meetings are held monthly on the third Thursday at Peninsula Hospital Meditation room. After the summer break, meetings will resume in September 2010.
