BCAC Pee Wee Shamrocks Win CYO Championship
The BCAC St. Virgilius/St. Camillus Pee Wee Shamrocks defeated Queen of Peace this past Saturday 6-0 to win the Queens CYO B Championship. The win extended the Shamrocks record to 12-0, completing a perfect season.
Timmy McCabe was the winning pitcher and dominated from the very first pitch. McCabe pitched a nohitter with 16 strikeouts and walking only 3 batters.
Patrick Minihane (BB, 2 stolen bases) called a great game at catcher by calling for a mixture of fastballs and changeups to keep the hitters off balance. In the bottom of the first inning, Liam Malsy walked and stole second and third base. With 2 outs he alertly stole home on a passed ball for the game’s first run. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Shamrock bats started to heat up. Michael O’Reilly blasted a shot to right field for a solo home run and a 2-0 lead.
Tristan Dougherty followed with a line drive which would have definitely gone for extra bases, but the SS made a leaping catch for the second out in the inning. McCabe hit a single, and then stole second and third base. With two outs, Nick Font hit a triple as McCabe scored for a 3-0 lead. Next up was LF Michael Reardon, who launched a 1-2 pitch to right field for a tworun homer and a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning, Dougherty made a nice play at second base to stop an extra base hit. RF Michael Henglein (BB, SB) played good defense. CF Angelo Fenty (double), LF Jarret Johnson RF Gilberto Lopez, 1B Michael O’Reilly, 3B Nick Font, and LF Storm Ramos all contributed to the Shamrock defense.
In the bottom of the fifth, Jack Allen hit a 0-2 line drive to left field for a home run. McCabe came out to start the top of the sixth inning, and struck out the side to end the game.
The 2010 Pee Wee Shamrocks started indoor practice in early January, and their hard work and dedication would eventually pay off.
The coaches, parents, friends and family are very proud of their accomplishment.
