Rockaway Little League Regular Season Comes To A Close

In Majors Girls, the Vintage Abstract Cubs locked up second place with a 13- 10 win over the Belle Harbor Bunk- 2ettes Angels. The game featured strong pitching from the Cubs’ trio of Renee Simos, Jenny Fahy and Melissa Piccione as well as excellent glove work by Michelle Wrynn and Lauren Peters. Michelle, who scored four runs, covered the entire outfield. Peters had a magnet in her glove at shortstop, notching five put outs and two assists. The Angels also got strong outfield play from Kalyn Marrero who showed plenty of hustle and heads-up in right.

At the plate, the Cubs had a balanced attack, scoring in all five at-bats. Jackie Banker had three RBIs and Katie King smacked her second triple of the season. Katie and Melissa each scored a run by sliding under the catcher’s tag. Trailing 13-4, the Angels mounted a furious last inning rally. Julia Carey started and then capped the six-run frame with a double and a single. The Pee Wee Senior All-Star game will be held today at 4 p.m. on the Rockaway Little League field #2.
